The department of Theoretical Aspects of the English Language was established on September 5, 2022 on the basis of the former department of English Phonetics. The department has been headed by candidate of philological sciences, associate professor S.O. Solijonov since 2017.

Educational and methodological work

Today, there are 20 full-time teachers in the department, including 3 associate professors, 3 candidates of science and 3 PhD. Since the academic year of 2022-2023, 1 foreign specialist Christian Bonk (Canada) has been involved in the educational process and is actively working in the department. The members of the department conduct lectures, seminars and practical trainings for students from the freshmen to graduate level students in the subjects taught in the department and supervise their practical work.

Lectures, practical classes and seminars for students of all courses on such theoretical subjects as “Stylistics of English”, “Lexicology of English”, “Theoretical Phonetics of the English Language”, “Theoretical Aspects of English”, “Terminology and Terminography” are delivered by highly qualified professors of the department.

In the academic year of 2022-2023, Master Degree Course Program in the specialty “Linguistics” (Specialization code: 70230101) was opened in the department, and currently 32 graduate full-time students are studying in the 1st and 2nd stages of  this department, and they are provided with the department’s leading professors and teachers.

Scientific research works

Currently, one of the priority directions in the scientific research activities of the “Theoretical Aspects of the English Language” department is the research and comparison of the disciplines of stylistics, lexicology and phonetics of the English language. Today, the scientific potential of the department is 32 percent. 3 doctoral students and 4 independent researchers are successfully conducting their scientific work in the department. Independent researcher M.T. Inamova’s PhD thesis defense is expected to be held at the end of 2023.

In 2023  2 textbooks, 8 educational (methodical) manuals prepared by the professors of the department, and more than 50 scientific articles and theses have been published. 2 of the scientific articles were published in international Scopus scientific journals, in scientific journals with more than 30 impact factors, 2 in international scientific journals, 3 in scientific journals on the list of HAC (Higher Attestation Commission) and 2 in scientific journals registered in our republic. 6 of the theses are international and 9 published in the materials of collections of the republican scientific-practical conferences.

The head of the department, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor Solijonov Sobirjon won the competition announced by the Ministry of Innovative Development in 2020 and was approved in the practical (social and humanities (Philology) project “Creating an Electronic Dictionary and Text Translator Software Product for Artificial Intelligence Platforms” and this project is planned to be completed in 2023. Another member of the department,  (PhD) Davlatova Hulkaroy Uktamovna, is involved in 1 project being implemented at Andijan State University during 2023-2024 and in 2 other projects by the research institute “Neighborhood and Family.”

Today, the “Young Philologist” laboratory is operating on the basis of the Department of Theoretical Aspects of the English Language, and it is headed by candidate of philological sciences, associate professor S.O.Solijonov. The laboratory is equipped with computers and other technical means and necessary equipment to conduct research in the fields of industry. It actively involves professors and teachers and students of the institute in research and conducting philological analysis and methodological work. It is aimed to increase the scientific potential of pedagogues and provide favorable conditions for young scientists.
